Ft Myers

We arrived in Ft Myers. It was a sunny day. We enjoyed the trip. Our destination was the City Yacht Basin where we had a slip reserved. We settled into our spot and met our boat neighbors on either side. One side had a couple who are presently living on their boat and have a home in Ashville. They have done the “Loop” and now are traveling around.  Very nice and interesting couple.

On the other side was a young couple down here for the season. Both of them are working in local restaurants. I believe he was from Michigan and she is a marine biologist from California. Taking a break. They were on a Catalina sailboat.  We hardly saw them due to their hours.

The City Marina is right downtown in the Historic River District. Great location.  It is on the Caloosahatchee River.

Our slip was by the wall next to the street. Time to explore. We have been here before. That night was “Mystery Night”. We never figured out what the mystery was but did enjoy walking around. We went to the top of Hotel Indigo for happy hour.

Our cute waitress. From there you can see the Caloosahatchee River.

We then went in search of a taco place we remembered.

Really terrific nachos and tacos.  Music was playing in the courtyard.

The next day we explored some more. Saw the brand new library. Very nice.

We also saw some giant iron sculptures located around town. We found out later that they were done by Edgardo Carmona. The larger-than-life, artfully rusted sculptures marked the first time Carmona has exhibited his art in North America. The show — a promotion for the planned luxury condo towers Allure — was organized through the city’s Public Art Committee. There were 23 altogether. It was fun trying to find them all.

Another fun thing we did was attend a play at Florida Repertory Theater. The theater is lovely and historic.

The play was Red Badge of Courage. A friend of ours had a grandson starring in it. We so enjoyed it. The play was put on by the Education department of Florida Rep.
